Faith & Fiction Reading Lounge

An unseren Dienstagabenden im Wintersemester lädt Johannes euch ein, in die Welt prominenter britischer Schriftsteller einzutauchen und gemeinsam zu diskutieren.

Im Fokus stehen die Inklings („Tintenkleckser“) – ein legendärer Lese- und Debattierclub rund um die Oxforder Gelehrten C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien.

What connected them? Beyond friendship, it was a passion for creative writing and a desire to explore Christian faith in new and exciting ways – a perspective they shared with the crime writer and translator Dorothy L. Sayers.

In the spirit of this tradition, on Tuesday evenings we read:

  • Lewis’ fantasy story "The Great Divorce"
  • a short story by Tolkien
  • a crime story by Dorothy L. Sayers

Lasst euch inspirieren, diskutiert mit, und entdeckt die Verbindung von Glaube, Fantasie und literarischem Schaffen aus erster Hand!
No prior experience required, materials will be provided.

Evening Meal "Bible Edition"

 ‘You invite me and set the table for me. You welcome me like a host welcomes his guest and fill my cup to the brim!’ (Psalm 23)

We want to have dinner with you.
Get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere, arrive and get full. Afterwards we would like to read a short piece from the Bible and share our thoughts on it. Then we will finish with dessert!

If you like, you can bring something to eat. Or someone you would like to spend time with. Everyone is welcome.

Zwischen Algorithmus und Mensch

AI, Human Dignity, and the “Atrophy of the Heart”

Artificial intelligence is transforming our world at a rapid pace. But what does this development mean for our understanding of the human person? In his encyclical Magnifica humanitas , Pope Leo XIV raises the question of what we must not lose in an increasingly technological world.

At the heart of the evening are the dignity of the human person, human limitations and vulnerability, and the question of what distinguishes us beyond performance, efficiency, and technological capability.

Together with the social ethicist Prof. Dr. Dr. Elmar Nass, we will explore the opportunities and limits of artificial intelligence and discuss the role of humanity, conscience, and responsibility in a digital future.

Questions and contributions from the audience are warmly welcome.

We look forward to an engaging and open discussion with you.

Sport & Spirit – Primal Moves

Find your balance through movement!

The fitness class is designed for students who wish to strengthen their mental health through physical activity. Targeted exercises improve body awareness and mobility, reduce stress, and help prevent psychosomatic symptoms such as tension or headaches.

The course combines powerful movements, stretches, breathing techniques, relaxation exercises, and so-called “Primal Moves” – playful exercises inspired by movements from the animal kingdom. At times, we even move on our hands and may eventually work toward standing steadily in a handstand. The movement sequences promote joy of movement, flexibility, and a sense of ease in everyday life. Accompanying reflections also help foster a deeper understanding of the connection between body and mind.

Goals:

  • Joy of movement instead of performance pressure
  • Improvement of body awareness
  • Stress reduction and relaxation
  • Promotion of mental balance
  • Relief of psychosomatic symptoms
  • Improvement of mobility

Charity concert - Klangspende

Unter dem Titel Klangespende lädt Amelie Schoo gemeinsam mit weiteren Musiker*innen zu einem Kammermusikkonzert ein, das nicht nur Ohren und Herzen erfreut, sondern auch Gutes bewirken soll.

All proceeds go to the NGO #LeaveNoOneBehind. They support people on the move, provide aid in crisis regions, and stand up against the rise of the far right. An evening for everyone who loves music and wants to make solidarity heard.

Benefit concerts of the World Doctors Orchestra

Mit großer Resonanz haben am 5. und 6. Juli 2025 die Benefizkonzerte in der Sankt Elisabeth Kirche Bonn und Philharmonie Köln des World Doctors Orchestra stattgefunden. Mit einem Chor aus mehreren hundert Studierenden der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln sowie des Collegium musicum der Universität Bonn wurde bei teilweise 38 Grad in unserer Kirche Hl. Johannes XXIII. und Aula in der Woche davor intensiv geprobt.

Die eingenommenen Spendengelder kommen dem Verein Kinderherzen e.V. zugute, der sich weltweit in krisengeschüttelten Regionen mit mobilen Krankenstationen um herzkranke Kinder kümmert.

Wir freuen uns sehr über diese Zusammenarbeit, wo insbesondere auch Studierende sich für den guten Zweck einsetzen. Wenn du ein Projekt mit caritativem Hintergrund planst und dafür Support (Räumlichkeiten, Know how etc.) benötigst, dann sprich uns gerne an.

Successful Museum Night

Am 2. November sind 180 Gäste bei uns in die Museumsnacht gestartet. Insgesamt 350 Besucher*innen haben die Ausstellung „Interference“ in der KHG Kirche gesehen.

Wir danken der Museumsnacht, die uns im ersten Jahr direkt als Highlight in ihr Programm aufgenommen hat. 

Wir danken allen Helfer*innen, die unermüdlich im Einsatz waren und das Event ermöglicht haben.

Ganz besonderen Dank gilt den drei Künstler*innen Ruben Tsangaris, Anna Balthasar und Michelle Bocker, die mit Ihrer Licht- und Soundinstallation „Interference“ die KHG Kirche wahrhaftig in ein begehbares Kunstwerk verwandelt haben.

Kunst macht sichtbar, gibt Emotionen Raum, öffnet unsere Sinne für die Schönheit und das Transzendente und stärkt Gemeinschaft. Damit ist Sie ganz wesentlicher Teil unseres Menschseins.

Holy Year Rome 2025

Jubilee of the youth
From 30th July to 6th August 2025 in Rome.

‘I invite all the young people of the world to Rome in 2025 to celebrate the Jubilee of Youth together,’ were the words with which the Holy Father surprised the 1.5 million young people and young adults at the sending-out Mass for World Youth Day in Lisbon.

Pilgrimage to Rome for the Holy Year by bus, train, bike or on foot. 

Participation fee: 649 Euro
